This course develops the mathematical fundamentals and software procedures for the synthesis of planar linkage systems. Students will generate the software routines necessary to successfully design and graphically animate innovative four-bar and six-bar linkages that achieve task requirements of their choosing. The course concludes with a design of a new linkage system to achieve a practical benefit.

This course presents the theory that underlies the kinematic and dynamic analysis of machines. Principles of linkage analysis, cam design and gear train analysis are the focus of study.
